Best Shopify Personalization Apps in 2026 (Compared by What They Personalize)

The best Shopify personalization apps in 2026, compared by the job they do: product recommendations, search and merchandising, popups, quizzes, content blocks and whole-page versions. Current features and pricing, plus Nosto alternatives by job.

Short answer

The best Shopify personalization app depends on which job you need done. For product recommendations and upsells, LimeSpot and Wiser are the affordable picks; for search and merchandising, Athos Commerce (Searchspring and Klevu) and Fast Simon; for quizzes, Octane AI; for popups, OptiMonk; for content for shoppers Klaviyo already knows, Klaviyo's Customer Hub. Nosto and the enterprise suites (Dynamic Yield, Bloomreach) cover several jobs in one contract. To show a whole different version of a page to a segment such as first-time visitors from an ad, use a page-level tool like Ariven, Shoplift or Intelligems.

The best Shopify personalization apps in 2026 do very different jobs. One app swaps product recommendations, another reorders search results, another runs quizzes or onsite popups, and a few change the whole page. This guide compares 15 of them by what they actually personalize, with current features and pricing checked on each vendor's site or Shopify App Store listing on November 3, 2026, and answers which Nosto alternatives fit a mid-size Shopify store.

Roundups that rank these apps on one list hide the difference, which is how stores end up paying for two tools that do the same job and none that do the one they need. We make Ariven, one of the apps below, so weigh our take accordingly.

Personalization is five different jobs

Before comparing apps, decide which job you're hiring for:

  1. Product recommendations and upsells. Which products a shopper sees in "you may also like" rows, the cart and post-purchase.
  2. Search and merchandising. Which results come first when a shopper searches or opens a collection.
  3. Popups, forms and onsite messages. An overlay or banner that appears for some visitors.
  4. Content blocks swapped by audience. One section of the page changes for a segment; the rest of the page stays the same.
  5. Whole-page versions per segment. A segment sees a different version of the page: different sections, order, copy and offer.

Quizzes are a sixth, narrower job: the shopper tells you what they want and the quiz recommends products.

Most apps do one or two of these well. Suites like Nosto, Dynamic Yield and Bloomreach do several.

Recommendations and upsells

Shopify Search & Discovery

Shopify's own Search & Discovery app is free and handles product recommendations, custom filters, search synonyms and product boosts. Per Shopify's developer docs, related products are generated automatically from product similarity, and complementary products are set up manually in the app. Recommendations are tied to the product being viewed, not to the individual shopper. Install it first. It covers the basics, and you'll know what a paid app needs to beat.

LimeSpot

LimeSpot offers AI product recommendations, "frequently bought together" bundles, and cart, checkout and post-purchase upsells. It also says it can "shapeshift your collections, images, and text to match visitors' interests, affinity, and purchase history," which reaches into content personalization. The App Store listing shows a free plan up to 10 orders a month, Turbo from $9.99/month scaling with order volume, and Max from $50/month with advanced segmentation and A/B testing, plus a 15-day trial.

Wiser

Wiser covers recommendations (frequently bought together, related, recently viewed), cart drawer and post-purchase upsells, checkout upsells on Shopify Plus, and an AI search called IntelliSearch. Its site also lists exit-intent popups and quiz-based recommendations. The listing prices it by monthly orders: free up to 50, then $9, $19 and $49 a month for up to 500 orders, with a 14-day trial. It's the lowest-cost way to get a broad recommendation setup.

Rebuy

Rebuy sells packages for Cart & Merchandising (Smart Cart, widgets, bundles), Checkout & Post-Purchase, Search & Collections, and Flows & A/B Testing, starting at $25/month per package based on monthly orders, with a 14-day trial. One thing to know: as of November 3, 2026, its App Store listing says it "is not currently available on the Shopify App Store." Netalico reports that App Store trackers show it removed on October 18, 2026, during a wave of delistings, with no public reason given. If you already run Rebuy, ask Rebuy what that means for your account. If you're choosing now, the closest App Store options for its cart and recommendation features are LimeSpot and Wiser.

Search and merchandising

Nosto

Nosto is the broadest app in the mid-market: AI search, category merchandising, product recommendations, dynamic bundles, content personalization, behavioral pop-ups, A/B testing, shoppable UGC and an Audience Builder for segments. Its pricing page says pricing is modular and quote-based, set by GMV, traffic and modules, with no self-service trial (qualified merchants get a proof of concept). The Shopify app is free to install with a Nosto account. Nosto suits brands that want one vendor for search, merchandising and recommendations and have the volume to justify a contract.

Athos Commerce (Searchspring and Klevu)

Searchspring and Klevu merged in January 2025 to form Athos Commerce. The Athos: Unified Discovery Shopify app covers search and browse, merchandising rules that prioritize by margin and stock, and contextual recommendations. The Klevu app is still listed separately. Both are free to install with charges billed by Athos; Athos doesn't publish prices on its site. Pick it when search and collection pages carry most of your revenue and your catalog is large.

Fast Simon

Fast Simon does AI search (including conversational and image search), collection merchandising, recommendations and personalization "from first visit." It's one of the few search tools with self-serve pricing on its listing: free for 100 sessions a month, then $39.99, $114.99 and $299.99 a month for up to 30,000 sessions, with merchandising rules and A/B testing on the top plan.

Quizzes and popups

Octane AI

Octane AI builds product quizzes and results pages, syncs answers to Klaviyo and Shopify, and reports revenue per answer. Pricing is credit-based (one credit per quiz start): Basic is $50/month for two quizzes, Plus is $200/month for unlimited quizzes and A/B testing, Enterprise starts at $500/month, all with a 14-day trial. Quizzes personalize for shoppers who opt in by answering, so they help most when your products need explaining (skincare, supplements, sizing-heavy categories).

OptiMonk

OptiMonk is a popup builder: email capture, exit-intent, gamified, upsell and quiz popups, with targeting, segmentation and A/B testing. The listing shows a free plan for 10,000 pageviews a month, then $29, $99 and $249 a month. Use it when the job is a targeted overlay, not a change to the page underneath.

Content blocks for known shoppers: Klaviyo onsite

If you already run Klaviyo, its onsite features are the natural first step. As we covered in Klaviyo-style flows on your website, Klaviyo now offers:

  • Personalized onsite banners that load at the top of your site, targeted by Klaviyo list or segment. Personalization tags only work for logged-in or recognized shoppers.
  • Onsite content blocks you place in the Shopify theme editor, shown to all, logged-out or logged-in shoppers, or to specific lists and segments.
  • Customer Hub, a drawer or floating panel with orders, favorites, coupons and recommendations. It's Shopify-only.

Banners and content blocks require Customer Hub's paid features, which Klaviyo prices from $20/month for up to 10,000 active profiles. The limit is identification: Klaviyo only tracks the browsing of known browsers, so segment targeting reaches the shoppers it can recognize, and these features add a banner or block rather than changing the rest of the page.

Whole-page versions and audience testing

Intelligems

Intelligems is best known for price testing, and its Smart Content module covers landing page and theme tests plus on-site personalization. The listing describes audience targeting by source, device, Klaviyo segment or behavior. Smart Content starts at $69/month and Unlimited is $349/month on the listing, with a 14-day trial. It's the strongest pick if you also want to test prices, discounts and shipping thresholds.

Shoplift

Shoplift runs A/B tests on themes, templates, product, collection and landing pages, and personalizes by device, country, UTM, referrer and more. Core is $99/month for testing; the listing puts advanced segmentation on Advanced at $399/month, with a 14-day trial. It suits teams whose main habit is testing template changes, who then want to keep the winner for one audience. For a head-to-head on these testing tools, see Shogun vs Intelligems vs Shoplift.

Ariven

Ariven is built for the fifth job: a whole different version of a page for a segment. You build the alternate version in the Shopify theme editor (duplicate a template and rework it for that segment, as in our page template guide), then create a flow in Ariven that says which segment sees it. Ariven routes each visitor in that segment to your version on the same URL. Everyone else sees the original. Ariven doesn't build or choose the pages; you do.

Segments include first visit, returning visitor or customer, a specific ad or campaign, traffic source, and your Klaviyo segments. Ariven's own segments come from its first-party tracking, which records about 140 parameters per visit with no custom event setup and links repeat visits into one journey, so they work for anonymous visitors. Typical flows: a presell product page for cold traffic, a page that continues a specific Meta ad, or a different homepage for returning customers. Optional connections to Shopify, GA4, Google Ads and Meta add data, and an MCP server lets you query it from ChatGPT or Claude.

It runs as an app embed with no theme code edits, alternate pages are noindex, and your pages stay in your theme if you uninstall. Each flow is A/B measured against the original. In our own randomized A/B test on a founder-owned store, three flows split 50/50 against the original lifted measured store sales by 9%, which projects to 18% with all traffic included. Results vary by store.

What it doesn't do: product recommendations, search or popups. Pair it with an app from those sections if you need them. Pricing starts at $99/month (Starter, up to 30,000 sessions) billed through Shopify, with every feature on every plan and a 30-day free trial. It launched on the App Store in May 2026 and, as of November 3, 2026, has no reviews yet, so you'll be an early customer.

Enterprise suites: Dynamic Yield and Bloomreach

Dynamic Yield, owned by Mastercard, covers segmentation, targeting, recommendations, journey orchestration, onsite search and experimentation, and is a Shopify Plus certified partner. It doesn't publish pricing.

Bloomreach sells Engagement (email, SMS, web personalization), Discovery (search, categories, recommendations) and Content (CMS, A/B testing). Its pricing page says "Starting at $60K a year for smaller brands" and that most smaller customers serve 500K+ monthly visitors. Both make sense when you have the traffic and a team to run them. Below that, the specialist apps above cost less per job.

The best Nosto alternatives for a mid-size Shopify store

Nosto bundles several jobs. The right alternative depends on which of them you actually use:

If you use Nosto for... Consider instead Why
Recommendations and bundles LimeSpot, Wiser Self-serve, App Store billing, priced by orders
Search and category merchandising Athos Commerce, Fast Simon Search-first tools; Fast Simon publishes prices
Content personalization for known customers Klaviyo Customer Hub Uses the segments you already built in Klaviyo
Behavioral pop-ups OptiMonk Free plan, priced by pageviews
A/B testing and segment experiences Ariven, Shoplift, Intelligems Change the whole page or template per audience, not one widget
Everything, at enterprise scale Dynamic Yield, Bloomreach Direct suite competitors

Two honest notes. First, replacing a suite with three specialist apps means three scripts, three dashboards and three bills; check total cost and page speed before you switch. Second, if Nosto's search and merchandising are working, you may only need to add a missing job (such as page-level segments) rather than replace it.

How to choose

  1. Find where you're losing the sale. In Shopify Analytics, break conversion rate down by traffic source and landing page, and split sales by first-time versus returning customers. Our conversion rate benchmarks give you reference points.
  2. Match the job to the leak. Low add-to-cart from search means a search tool. Low AOV means recommendations and bundles. A segment converting far below the rest (often first-time paid social visitors) means that segment needs a different page. Our website personalization examples show what to change for each segment.
  3. Check who the tool can see. If most of your traffic is anonymous, a tool that only personalizes for identified shoppers will reach a small share of visitors.
  4. Start free or on a trial. Most apps above offer a free plan or a 14- to 30-day trial. Run one job at a time so you can tell what worked.
  5. Measure against a control. Whatever you pick, compare the personalized experience with the original for the same segment. Our guide to personalization ROI shows how to set up the holdout.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best alternative to Nosto for Shopify?

It depends on which part of Nosto you use. For product recommendations and bundles, LimeSpot or Wiser cost far less and install from the Shopify App Store. For search and category merchandising, Athos Commerce (the company formed from Searchspring and Klevu) and Fast Simon are the closest matches. If you want one enterprise suite that covers recommendations, content and testing, Dynamic Yield and Bloomreach compete with Nosto directly. If what you need is a different page for a segment of visitors, a page-level tool such as Ariven, Shoplift or Intelligems fits better than any recommendation engine.

What are the best Shopify personalization apps in 2026?

Group them by job. Recommendations and upsells: LimeSpot, Wiser, Rebuy and Shopify Search & Discovery (free). Search and merchandising: Athos Commerce, Fast Simon, Nosto. Quizzes: Octane AI. Popups: OptiMonk. Content for known shoppers: Klaviyo Customer Hub. Whole-page versions per segment: Ariven, with Shoplift and Intelligems offering audience targeting inside their testing tools. Enterprise suites: Dynamic Yield and Bloomreach.

What tools do Klaviyo users use for onsite personalization?

Many start with Klaviyo's own Customer Hub, which adds segment-targeted banners at the top of the site and content blocks you place in the theme editor, starting at $20 per month for up to 10,000 active profiles. Segment targeting and personalization tags depend on Klaviyo recognizing the shopper. For anonymous visitors, Klaviyo users add tools that segment by behavior or traffic source, such as Intelligems (which can also target by Klaviyo segment) or Ariven, plus a recommendation app like LimeSpot or Nosto.

Is Rebuy still on the Shopify App Store?

Not as of November 3, 2026. Rebuy's App Store listing reads that the app is not currently available on the Shopify App Store. App Store trackers date the removal to October 18, 2026, during a wave of delistings, and Rebuy has not publicly said why. If you already use Rebuy, ask Rebuy directly what it means for your account and billing.

Do Shopify personalization apps work for anonymous visitors?

Some do and some don't. Recommendation and search engines like LimeSpot, Nosto and Fast Simon personalize from browsing behavior, so they work for anonymous visitors. Klaviyo's onsite features need Klaviyo to recognize the shopper before segment targeting or personalization applies. Page-level tools like Ariven segment anonymous visitors by first visit, return visits, ad or traffic source.
